In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other replied, “Why, of course. There has to be something after delivery. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.”
“Nonsense” said the first. “There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be?”
The second said, “I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths. Maybe we will have other senses that we can’t understand now.”
The first replied, “That is absurd. Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! The umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need. But the umbilical cord is so short. Life after delivery is to be logically excluded.”
The second insisted, “Well I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here. Maybe we won’t need this physical cord anymore.”
The first replied, “Nonsense. And moreover if there is life, then why has no one has ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere.”
“Well, I don’t know,” said the second, “but certainly we will meet Mother and she will take care of us.”
The first replied “Mother? You actually believe in Mother? That’s laughable. If Mother exists then where is She now?”
The second said, “She is all around us. We are surrounded by her. We are of Her. It is in Her that we live. Without Her this world would not and could not exist.”
Said the first: “Well I don’t see Her, so it is only logical that She doesn’t exist.”
To which the second replied, “Sometimes, when you’re in silence and you focus and you really listen, you can perceive Her presence, and you can hear Her loving voice, calling down from above.”
After nine months the two babies were born and they left the womb into this world. The umbilical cord which was their source of nutrients and conduit for waste disposal was cut and broken and sure enough they never needed the physical cord any more. They were named Amos and Rebeca.
They now could see, touch, smell, taste and hear. They experienced the world through the senses which they could now fully utilize to explore the new environment. Though the umbilical cord was cut off the Amos and Rebeca were nourished by their mother through breast feeding and later were introduced to solid food. Unlike in the womb, the children could walk freely in the enlarged environment.
There certainly was life after delivery so they came to discover. There is noise, there is light and a lot of activity. The mother’s presence is a source of comfort and joy and an assurance of safety and providence. As they grew older they remembered the conversation in their mother’s womb and a new conversation ensured.
Amos asked “Do you believe in life after death?”. “Of course, there has to be something after death Rebecca replied. Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.”
“No way” said Amos. “There is no life after death. What kind of life would that be?”
Rebecca said, “I don’t know, but there will be more light than here. Maybe we will move freely and be able to be in many places at the same time. Maybe we will have the ability to do that which we can’t understand now.”
Amos replied, “That is not likely. Being in many places and not being restricted by time is impossible. Not being hungry and having a new body that does not deteriorate and decay is impossible. Life after death doesn’t sound logical.”
Rebecca insisted, “Well I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here. Maybe we won’t need this physical body anymore.”
Amos replied, “No way. And moreover if there is life after death, then why has no one ever come back from there? Death is the end of life, and in the after-death there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere.”
“Well, I don’t know,” said the Rebecca, “but certainly we will meet God and He will take care of us.”
Amos replied “God? You actually believe in God? That’s laughable. If God exists then where is He now?”
Rebecca d said, “He is all around us. We are surrounded by him. We are of Him. It is in Him that we live. Without Him this world would not and could not exist.”
Said Amos: “Well I don’t see Him, so it is only logical that He doesn’t exist.”
To which the Rebecca replied, “Sometimes, when you’re in silence and you focus and you really listen, you can perceive His presence, and you can hear His loving voice, calling down from above.”
Dear friends there is life after death. In fact it is everlasting life in eternity. We need to know and believe in our God the Creator, Jesus our savior and the Holy Spirit our Helper. Then and only then are you assured of an everlasting life after death. Meanwhile here on earth we are in preparation and they way we live determines whether we have eternal life or eternal death. The freedom of choice that we have and how we live our lives is the key answer the the great question Amos asks Rebecca “ Is there life after death”.
