Becoming like Christ

Like father like son so the saying goes to refer to family likeness. During the creation in the book of genesis God said Let us make man in our own image and likeness. How then are we like God? We are spiritual beings which means we have an immortal spirit that will outlast our earthly bodies. We are intellectual and thus can think, reason and solve problems . We are relational that is we can give and receive real love and we we also have a moral consciousness which means we can discern right from wrong and are therefore accountable to God. These are just but a few of the aspects that make humans like God.
Gods Ultimate goal for our life on earth is not comfort or luxury but rather character development. He wants us to be come godly that is take on the character, values and attitudes of Jesus. In the book of Ephesians 4:22-24 we read.

Since, then, we do not have the excuse of ignorance, everything–and I do mean everything–connected with that old way of life has to go. It’s rotten through and through. Get rid of it! And then take on an entirely new way of life–a God-fashioned life,
a life renewed from the inside and working itself into your conduct as God accurately reproduces his character in you.

Like Gold that is purified with fire our life here on earth are for the purpose of preparing us for heaven. Life is not about you. You exist for Gods purpose and not the vice versa. God gives us our time on earth to build and strenghthen our character for heaven. . He does not provide heaven on earth as he plans for the real things in heaven. Persevere therefore and mold your character for the good things to come.
Allow the holy spirit to produce the Christlike character in you. Sanctification is the process of allowing the holy spirit to change us more and more like Christ. On our own we are weak and can not produce the character of Jesus in our lives. Only the Holy spirit has the power to to make the changes God wants to make in our lives. Christ likeness is not produces by imitation by by in habitation. Choose to do the right things in every day situations and then trust Gods spirit to give you the power, the love, the faith and the wisdom to do it.
